Individual Strategic Projects

Individual projects are aimed at driving outstanding new technologies and solutions from which one might anticipate long-term strategic impacts in the ICT sector. These varied projects adopt a forward-looking approach and are particularly significant for the German economy.

International cooperation projects

The German Government supports a limited number of bilateral cooperation projects with selected partner countries in the European and international arena. The aim is, on the one hand, to transfer technological developments to foreign application areas and markets and, on the other hand, to use the specific competences of research institutions and companies from the respective partner country in current funding areas for joint activities.

5G Campus networks

In the future communications technology 5G and, prospectively, 6G, Germany is to take a leading role as a technology provider among the world leaders. The German Government is therefore funding R&D projects in this area at national and European level.

Autonomik

AUTONOMICS was about future-oriented approaches for the development of a new generation of intelligent tools and systems that are able to network themselves, recognize situations, adapt to changing operating conditions and interact with users and other objects.

Autonomics for industry 4.0

The technology programme "AUTONOMICS for Industry 4.0" has dovetailed modern I&C technologies with industrial production by exploiting innovation potentials and accelerating the development of innovative products.

E-Energy

The E-Energy programme, which was a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety made a vital contribution to speeding up the German energy reforms.

IT2Green

The IT2Green technology programme was launched to provide funding for innovative pilot projects which aim to develop comprehensive solutions that make the use of ICT in data processing centres, telecommunications networks, and office and home appliances more energy-efficient.

AI Innovation Competition

The AI Innovation Competition launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) aims to promote artificial intelligence in all important areas of the economy while focusing strongly on the needs and opportunities of Germany’s many small and medium-sized companies.

NextGenerationMedia

The Next General Media technology programme provided funding for 11 collaborative projects which explored new opportunities linked to electronic networking, and focused on ubiquitous computing and its use in specific fields of application.

OIH

The joint project OIH - Open Integration Hub aims at the prototypical development of an open source integration platform. OIH user companies will be able to synchronize their data automatically between applications.

PAiCE

"PAiCE - Digital Technologies for the Economy" is a technology program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. This technology programme aims to integrate future-oriented digital technologies into industrial processes and applications.

Quantum Computing - Applications for industry

The Federal Government of Germany has set the goal of promoting the use of quantum technologies, and quantum computing in particular. The funding programme "Quantum Computing - Applications for industry" addresses the creation of quantum computing software for problem solutions in practical, economic applications.

Showcase programme “Secure Digital Identities”

The "Secure Digital Identities” showcases aim to strengthen digital sovereignty by developing German eIDAS solutions, which are equally user-friendly, trustworthy and cost-efficient. These solutions should be easier to access for administration, businesses - especially SMEs - and the population. The aim is to create application-oriented eID ecosystems that are characterised by openness, interoperability and simple, intuitive and barrier-free usage.

SimoBIT

Under the SimoBIT initiative, funding is provided to cooperative research projects aimed at developing, testing and the widespread use of innovative and secure mobile multimedia applications for improving productivity and quality in business and administration.

Smart Living

In recent years, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) has carried out a large number of R&D funding measures within the framework of its funding programmes and strategic individual projects, demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of smart living applications in areas such as comfort, safety, energy management and health prevention.

Smart Services Worlds

The technology programmes "Smart Service World I" and "Smart Service World II" developed state-of-the-art technologies for the further digitisation of the economy and society.

Smart Data Economy

A technology competition of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action with the focus on artificial intelligence, semantics, sovereignty.

The exploitation of data is an economic factor to be taken seriously. In the digital age, data is the raw material for economic value creation.

THESEUS

The individual THESEUS projects explore a range of new services and service platforms for various fields of application both for home and private-sector use.

Competence Network & Label Trusted Cloud

The successful Trusted Cloud technology program has resulted in two follow-up activities supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action: One is the competence network with a marketplace and the label for trustworthy cloud services. The second is the pilot project Data Protection Certification for Cloud Services.

Trusted Cloud

The goal of the Trusted Cloud technology program was to develop and test innovative, secure and legally compliant cloud computing solutions. Medium-sized companies in particular are to benefit from these new, cloud-based services.
