SDIKA
Showcase region: Karlsruhe and Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region
The showcase project "Sichere Digitale Identitäten Karlsruhe" (SDIKA) is developing an identity solution that is being tested in numerous use cases in Karlsruhe and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. With SDIKA, citizens are to decide for themselves how their digital identity is managed. Therefore, the use of both centrally managed identities (cloud-based identity) and self-managed identities (self-sovereign identity, SSI) will be possible. The project targets not only individuals, but also organizations such as companies, public corporations and associations that use their organizational identities with SDIKA.
Interoperability, openness and suitability for everyday use are the strategic guidelines of SDIKA. Moreover, research partners will focus on the cross-sectional topics of digital sovereignty of citizens and organizations, UUX (usability & user experience), security effects and legal issues.
The used technology is the self-developed SDI-X system with an open-source adapter. The adapter enables acceptance points to verify and use digital identities of different issuers: this ensures interoperability. In addition, open, trustworthy digital ecosystems are being created, which are being tested and further developed in SDIKA use cases in the areas of e-government, health, mobility, digital planning and construction, and digital urban society.
