Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR)
Both methods change the visible environment:
Whilst ‘virtual reality’ (VR) is a purely digital image of a virtual world that is created in the computer, ‘augmented reality’ (AR) represents a combination of digital and analog elements. Virtual reality takes the user, wearing so-called VR goggles, to a computer-generated three-dimensional world which appears surprisingly real although it was artificially created. Augmented reality extends reality with additional elements, and additional information about the environment is presented via a smartphone camera or AR goggles. Employees, for instance, can receive information or instructions for the machines they are operating.
