Blockchain/distributed ledger technology

The overall goal of blockchain and distributed ledger technology is the secure sharing of information among multiple parties.

Distributed ledger technology is a type of database where any number of copies of a document or transaction can be organized. The data is not managed and stored centrally, but can be viewed and amended by every user in the network.

The blockchain is a particularly well-known technique of distributed ledger technology. The data is stored in the form of blocks which, for their part, are connected to form a chain. The order of the blocks cannot be changed, so that the blockchain can be viewed but not manipulated. This makes data transfer more transparent and efficient.
Both methods are extremely transparent and traceable and therefore particularly suitable for sharing important documents. The technologies can be used, for instance, to facilitate the trading of contracts or commercial paper, but also for the secure sharing of process data.
