Automated Stereo Production - ASP

Within the framework of ASP, the prototype of a small, robust, low-cost and largely automated 3D recording system was to be developed, with which the costs and effort of 3D productions can be significantly reduced compared to solutions available today. This applies in particular to 3D television and 3D live productions.

The main innovations sought included the lightweight (approx. 3.2 kg) and compact design of the 3D recording system as well as an integrated intelligent control system. This should make it easier to position the camera close to the scene or even in the scene and to move it along with objects in the scene. Automated correction mechanisms should largely avoid errors in the 3D recording. The ASP concept was based on a mirrorless side-by-side camera setup and integrated newly developed components such as high-quality zoom lenses and compact intelligent cameras.

In addition, it was to be examined with associated partners to what extent the project results could be used in industrial application areas, such as medical technology or automotive engineering. To this end, corresponding concepts were to be developed with the respective partners and evaluated using demonstrators. The work on ASP was supported by the 3D Innovation Center.
