This guide shows how privacy‑enhancing technologies (PETs) can help design edge‑cloud systems that are secure, compliant with data protection regulations and at the same time value‑creating. It supports practitioners in identifying information security requirements, selecting appropriate PET tools and effectively integrating them into application design.

The focus is on analysing concrete PET tools and their use in practice‑oriented scenarios from the food industry, industrial manufacturing and the energy sector. The study also outlines key risks and requirements that need to be taken into account in data‑driven edge‑cloud applications. In addition, it defines four areas for action with clear recommendations for the successful and legally compliant use of PETs. Overall, the guide shows that PETs are a crucial success factor for trustworthy cooperation and sustainable value creation from data in edge‑cloud ecosystems.
