Cooperation Secure Digital Identities

In Germany, Austria and many other countries, innovative infrastructures are currently being created that enable more self-determination and control over digital identities of individuals, organisations and things.
Thus, the BMWK-funded showcases "Secure Digital Identities" also aim to strengthen digital sovereignty by developing eIDAS solutions (eIDAS: electronic IDentification, Authentication and trust Services). They should be user-friendly, trustworthy and cost-efficient at the same time - and more easily accessible for administration, companies (especially SMEs) and the population. The aim is therefore to create application-oriented eID ecosystems that are characterised by openness, interoperability and simple, intuitive and barrier-free use.

In a cooperation, the BMWK and the Austrian Ministry of Innovation and Technology (BMK) are promoting the interoperability of these digital identities across national borders. Against this background, the BMK called for proposals that make an R&D contribution to an ongoing BMWi-funded showcase project.

This resulted in two cooperation projects that started in 2021:
