Accompanying Research
The tasks of the accompanying research refer to the programme level and the project level.
The central tasks of accompanying research at the project level include:

  • Continuous monitoring of the progress and orientation of the projects with a view to current national and international technology and market developments and the derivation of recommendations to the project participants for any necessary adjustments.
  • Intensive support in the sustainable exploitation of project results, for example in the development of business models.
Advising the projects on the design of their platforms with regard to UX/UI design.

At the cross-project level of the AI innovation competition, accompanying research is dedicated to, among other things:

  • To identifying and bringing about potential synergies between projects.
  • Identifying important, cross-project issues, for example in the areas of technology, law, security, data protection and ethics (see following page): In coordination with the projects, accompanying research offers expert forums for joint work on these topics and provides support in the form of accompanying analyses and short studies as well as scientific processing and, if necessary, publication of results for appropriate target groups - insofar as this is in the interest of the project participants.
  • Coordination of cross-programme cooperation, for example with other Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) technology programme such as - in the field of AI - the Smart data economy.
  • Networking of the projects among each other and externally, e.g. with the GAIA-X initiative, as well as other relevant national and international initiatives and stakeholders.
  • Supporting the funded projects in terms of a uniform appearance and recognition of the AI innovation competition in the public, e.g. by coordinating trade events and trade fair participations.
  • A moderated external presentation of the platform projects of the AI innovation competition via the website, which serves in particular for the publication of publications.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action has commissioned the Institute for Innovation and Technology (iit) in VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, Berlin, to conduct accompanying research for the AI innovation competition.
