Project description
Noise protection is an essential factor in the planning and implementation of infrastructure projects. Complaints by affected residents regularly lead to considerable delays in approval processes, which cause significant additional costs and slow down the urgently needed expansion of environmentally friendly rail transport and other infrastructure projects. New simulation tools could make it possible to experience the effects of future noise protection measures realistically in advance. This would have the potential to significantly accelerate planning processes and lay the foundation for automated noise protection planning that is optimised in terms of costs and benefits. EAV-Infra aims to solve the described problem by implementing customised simulation tools for auralising (making audible) of planning conditions using the example of rail infrastructure in rural areas of the Prignitz region. Through integration into the digital planning method Building Information Modelling (BIM), reliable forecasts of future noise immissions can be generated from planning data with little additional effort.

Based on the technologies to be developed, engineering offices, communication service providers and acoustics offices will be able to address additional services for almost all large-scale infrastructure projects throughout Europe in the future. The achievable efficiency and productivity gains in the economic optimisation and acceleration of the planning and approval of infrastructure projects are immense in view of the volumes planned for the coming years (86 billion euros of investment in the German rail infrastructure by 2030). Through more efficient planning processes, calculation and communication, projects can be accelerated, and investment backlogs avoided. Psychoacoustic parameters can also be used by noise protection experts as an additional basis for consideration in benefit-cost comparisons, as well as for reducing noise pollution, e.g., in the development of new vehicles and noise protection measures.
Within the scope of the project, use cases will be tested in the following fields: auralisation, digital twin, psychoacoustics, sound calculation, noise protection planning.
