QC Next – Development of a modular software stack for the commercial application of quantum computing (satellite projects)
Call for funding applications dated October 13, 2025, based on the “Development of Digital Technologies” funding program
The submission deadline is 12 December 2025, 12:00 noon (deadline).
Content framework
With QC Next, the BMFTR is supporting the development of a modular software stack for quantum computing. The core element of the funding is a lead project that will develop a reference architecture with open interfaces starting in December 2025. The foundations of the planned software stack are set out in the final report of the QC Next innovation concept.
This call is intended to fund "satellite projects" - supplementary projects that thematically revolve around the lead project, validate the reference architecture using specific industrial applications and complete it with process models and other software modules. The aim is to systematically develop quantum computing solutions, integrate them into existing processes and thus make it easier for companies to access value creation potential.
The funded satellite projects will work closely with the lead project, which is running at the same time. At the start of the satellite projects, the lead project will provide a first version of the reference architecture with an initial description of the interfaces, which will then be further developed in an agile manner with the involvement of the satellite projects.
The projects should be driven forward with commercial interest. A particular focus will be on future business and utilisation models.
Application
Project outlines can be submitted via PT-Outline until 12 December 2025, 12:00 noon. Further information on how to apply can be found in the call for funding and the funding programme.
Information & Networking
Those interested in funding are encouraged to form consortia for the application. To support the search for partners, the DLR Projektträger invites you to a virtual information and networking event via WebEx on 6 November 2025 at 10:00 am. Questions about the call for funding can be asked there and potential project partners can be found. Registration is possible via this link.
In addition, the consortium partners of the "QC Next innovation concept" are offering a virtual seminar on 14 November that will provide a technical introduction to the planned software stack. This will provide an opportunity for questions and discussions that will support the development of the sketches and work with the reference architecture. You can register here.
