Smart Data Disaster Management

In instances of disaster such as flooding, a good availability of data in all stages of risk management plays a vital role. Current and reliable information about the situation at the location is currently made available. However, for various reasons, it is still not available for use fast enough.

The project sd-kama – Smart Data Disaster Management is trying to remedy this, such as in the event of a flooding natural disaster. The aim of the project is to improve the availability of information, for example about the extent and the intensity of the flooding, the people affected or about the condition of buildings and infrastructure. To achieve this, an information system has been designed that combines geographic information from satellite images with other sources like images and video data from the scene obtained by crowdsourcing, as well as other sensor data, and allows for a targeted, real-time and scalable disaster management response.
