The annual economic losses resulting from traffic congestion in Germany is equal to almost eight billion euros according to the British institute Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR). Furthermore, the Federal Motor Transport Authority reports that annually almost 6 billion kilometres are travelled in Germany by transport companies without freight. These are just two examples that show the enormous efficiency potentials that can be gained from more efficient mobility and logistics.

The aim of the ExCELL project is the development and piloting of a platform that provides integrated mobility services for SMEs. Based on existing geolocation, traffic and operating data, a crowdsourcing approach can be used to ensure decentralisation, flexibility and timeliness. The platform integrates existing routing concepts from the current seven partners and enriches their data with heterogeneous mass data from the crowd.
